CMS case study Mr B – Issues with system signalling
At 3 am we checked National Power Grids and found a power outage in this client’s location. We contacted the customer and explained the situation, however, at this stage, the client decided that he did not want us to visit, relying on the power supplier to fix the issue. Later in the afternoon, we received a battery fail signal and contacted the customer. We advised that the alarm system was not functioning and this could be the case for many other electrical appliances such as the freezer. On this advice, the client grew concerned for his tropical fish aquarium and finally agreed that we should attend. When we arrived we recognised the previous power issue had caused an RCD switch to trip. we restored the power, which was just in time as the tropical fish needed heat, light and constant water circulation. Two days later there was another power fail and this time we attended the property straight away and again the RCD switch had tripped. Upon seeking technical advice, it was suggested that an electrician would be needed to investigate. We relayed this information to the client who took the advice when he returned. A fault on the ring main was discovered, which could have caused an electrical fire. By using CMS Keyholding, they were saved from a potential hazard which could have transpired into something much more serious.
